I enjoyed a week hiking on the Indian Ocean island of La Réunion in November 2008. The hiking in and around volcano craters was spectacular but the climbs were tough. I stayed first at Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, the first couple of days were cloudy in the mountains, eventually I got a hike up from le Maïdo. Then I moved to Cilaos, but had to return early due to an Air France strike.
This was one of my first adventures without a film camera, I was relying on a digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR). Great not to have to worry about keeping the film cool and safe from airport X-rays but I was disappointed with the results: my focus and framing were fine but the exposure and contrast control weren’t good.
I’ve revisited the digital negative files using my current toolset and am much happier with the pictures. I’m presenting them in date order so the viewer gets a feel of how my stay progressed.
