Vacqueyras AOC
Réserve Bessons Dupré 2024
Médaille d’or, concours des vins Orange 2025
A really satisfying Côtes du Rhône wine. Vacqueyras village has its own Appelation Controlée and is situated adjacent to the Gigondas uplands but Domaine Bessons Dupré vineyards are located on the stony garrigue plateau, which suits them fine. The wines from both these Côtes du Rhône villages have come in to greater prominence in recent years. This Vacqueyras vintage gained the gold medal at last year’s festival in Orange and is now on sale widely in Provence.
Tasting notes
We found it gave a good floral fragrance in the glass with a dark red colour to the eye. The first taste was very dry indeed, maybe even slightly bitter. Terry made it Damson, my taste made it Blackcurrant and Blackberry.
The swig was more spicy than is usual for a wine from the Côtes du Rhône Villages: peppery and slightly warming to the tongue and throat.
Very smooth, not harsh.
A long pleasant after-taste, mainly Blackcurrant but slightly sharp like Myrtille, not sweet.
The wine mellowed further once uncorked.
A really good wine in the Côtes du Rhône Villages style.
