Winter hedge trimming in Keswick, Lake District National Park

Trimming and shaping the pavement side of my hedges in Keswick, surrounded by birds singing happily. There’s plenty of new growth even though it’s winter; whilst there have been frosts and there’s snow still on the tops of the highest fells around, my garden certainly hasn’t lacked water.

I started snipping with the hand shears but it soon became apparent that the power hedge clippers would be needed.
I’m finding that a session gardening like this is at least as worthwhile for fitness as a gym session; great for neighbour chats too.
Then the first tea and cake in my garden this year, enjoying the thin sunshine of the last day of January.
